One of the most awesome dj projects ever undertaken, the Dj Food take on the history of the cut up has to be heard to be believed.Released online back in 1994 it caused a bit of a stir.Essentially it’s a sort of history of cut up music….stuff that people have looped, manipulated or mashed together,in the space of an hour!.
Dj food is usually assumed to be one person, when in fact over the years the persona of Dj Food has been several dj’s,Matt Black and Jonathan Moore of Coldcut fame,PC and Strictly Kev,amongst others.
The History Of The Cut Up is a weird trip through music in it’s broadest sense, the scope of the genres and cultural references represented are staggering, and all mixed together pretty much seamlessly, you can find a partial tracklist and download link here.
Highly recommended, doesn’t matter what kind of tunes you like, you will find something to interest you here,if only the skill of the turntablism.
